Welcome to the hospital’s website. Okhaldhunga Community Hospital (OCH) was established in the year 1962 AD on March 14th as a small dispensary on the foothill of Mount Everest. Over the years many people have prayed and contributed to this hospital and community. Now, it is a 50-bed primary care hospital. Our mission is “Inspired by God’s love, UMN MDT Okhaldhunga is a centre of holistic, quality healthcare and training, providing preventive, promotive, curative, palliative care and rehabilitation with special focus on the poor and marginalized.”

Mildred Ballard (UK), who was associated with the Nepal Border Fellowship, took an extensive tour and surveyed Okhaldhunga in 1956-58 and highly recommended the development of potential health programs. Unfortunately, she died before implementing the plan, but her vision for health work in the eastern part of Nepal resulted in obtaining permission to run a dispensary in Okhaldhunga, and Dr. James Dick (Scotland) led the first medical team.

OCH serves as a referral center for Okhaldhunga District (due south from Everest) and additionally serves people from the surrounding districts, accounting for a population of more than 250,000. Along with Okhaldhunga, OCH serves patients from 4 other adjacent districts. We have various departments such as Emergency and Outpatient, Nursing department (general ward, ob/gyn ward, and Pediatric ward), Orthopedic services with Physiotherapy services, Dental department, Pharmacy department, and Maternal waiting home. Our social service department staff provide pastoral care for patients and to the staff. We also have a Community Health Department that services two Rural Municipalities with Community Based Rehabilitation services.

Our nursing school program is on halt now as per government policy, we have to register OCH to 100 bed to continue nursing school. Until then, we hope to start the Health Assistant course.
